St Margarets Institute Community Centre

Location: St Margaret's Institute Community Centre, Oxford

St Margaret's Institute was built by public subscription some 115 years ago. Originally a working man's club, it has provided community support, at times a bath-house, a theatre, and used to entertain and provide refreshments for wartime troops, it now provides home for a diverse range of groups and individuals from the surrounding area and further afield.

Category: Community

Customer: Bryan Wardley, Treasurer/Project Manager of St Margaret's

System Size: 5.5kWp Install

Challenge: St Margaret’s Institute Community Centre, Oxford, has been serving local community needs since 1889. Trying to look after the wider community’s needs they wanted to reduce their carbon footprint.  They also wanted to start saving money on their electricity bills so that their savings could better be used to deliver their core community objectives. Having looked at lots of different renewable options, the Institute decided that solar PV was the most appropriate and asked Joju Solar to install a 5.55kWp system.

We wanted to show that we could have a PV system that looked elegant enough to fit with our position in a Conservation Area and we definitely achieved it.  We chose Joju Solar because they had been recommended to us and because we valued their technical expertise .  We are really happy with the system we got and with the service that they provided

Solution: Designing the system to the customer needs is something we are always happy to do. As the community centre had been serving the local community for many years we designed and installed a system which was specifically designed for St Margaret's allowing them to maximise the electricity they produced.

Rewards: Providing a community with renewable energy which in turn saves on fuel bills and allows the extra money to be used on other projects is a huge reward.

We really enjoyed working on this project.  We always love working with groups like St Margaret’s and helping them achieve their sustainability aims with solar PV and save money for other projects
