Kings Centre

Location: Oxford

Category: Commercial

Customer: The Kings Centre

System Size: 50kWp

Panels: Amerisolar 235W

Inverters: 3 x Solarmax MT series

Annual Generation: 42,500kWh

CO2 Saving: 23 tonnes per year

Challenge: The installation took 7 days to complete, one of the main challenges being the safe installation of the array given numerous fragile roof lights interspersed in the array. A full health & safety plan was implemented to ensure safe working at all times in a dangerous environment.

As our commercial project managers had scoped, carried out a site survey and drawn up the designs for the systems beforehand the installation went smoothly without any hitches. The system was installed on time and within budget.

It has been great to work with a community initiative, and with the installers Joju Solar, who obviously believe in what they are doing. We are really behind the environmental objectives and of course benefit from a financial saving as well.

Stuart Waddington, Centre Director

Solution: The installation was split into 2 systems over two separate time periods. The first system was installed in September 2009 and the second in August 2011.

The first installation, a 11kWp system was installed on the roof above the reception area and had produced 10,168kWh in the first 12 months, with 5.5 tonnes of CO2 saved.

The second installation, a 39kWp system was installed on the Cotswold Hall roof which has generated over 2,500kWh since August 2011 with 1.2 tonnes of CO2 saved.

The installations were made possible due to the partnership with West Oxford Community Renewables who had sourced Government funding for this and other projects.

Rewards: The annual generation of 42,500kWh of both systems combined is the equivalent to usage from 12 households over a year. The electricity produced is estimated to be worth £3,400 with the panels providing around 25% of the needs of The King's Centre.
